'Building' a Mac? From what? You realize of course if you try to install OSX on a non certified computer, you will get no cookie?

Well the funny thing is that there are companies out there that are still doing it.

Like the RussianMac's MiniBook netbook with OS X pre-installed for $616 U.S. dollars.

Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz processor
1GB of RAM
160GB 5400RPM HDD
Intel GMA 950 graphics
10.2 inch 1024 x 600 resolution display
Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0
3 USB 2.0 ports, VGA, media card reader

Here are a few links for you to compare:

Newegg link for netbooks between $200 - $300.

Tiger Direct link for netbooks between $200 - $499 arranged form lowest price to highest. I personally liked this one from HP.

And here'sBest Buy's selection on netbooks between $250 - $499.

Well, good luck. There's plenty to choose from and they all seem pretty solid to me.

It all depends on what you're looking for in a netbook. But if you like to try out different operating systems and then the best one for that is Asus Eee 1000HE. It is what maximum PC prefers the best in its operating system tests.

I have been a big fan of TabletPC's and their touchscreens for years. And Gigabyte is going to release their convertible Gigabyte T1028M TouchNote netbook soon. I have been using a Tablet PC so long with a touchscreen that I could not dream of buying a notebook / laptop or a netbook if it didn't have a touchscreen. It is my own personal preference and a must have feature and Gigabyte will be the first one to do this. Some people have told me that it looks like an MSI Wind.

I use http://www.netbooktech.com/ to keep up on all things netbook and their latest news.

If you are into the longest battery life then either the MSI Wind U100 (5.5 hours) or the The Samsung NC10 (6.5 hours), and of course there is also the ASUS Eee PC 1000HE 10-Inch Black Netbook - 9.5 Hour Battery Life:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QTXL82?ie=UTF8&tag=netbo-2...

Also the Toshiba mini NB205 has up to 9+ hour battery life:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9371609&type=prod...

If you get the Eee PC 1101HA, you can get 11 hours of battery life with the 6 cell 63Wh Li-ion battery.

I know that some of these netbooks are above your budget, but this should give you a good idea of a few good brands with some excellent features to pick and choose from.

Acer, at TigerDirect. I had my hands on these, very nice. The demand of these lately has forced the price up, there were at $239 not long ago. The RAM is upgradeable to 2 GB an they run Windows XP. Wireless built in.
