I think, because iPod Touch/iPhone is pretty useful, so the future will be all-in-one mobile gadget with phone and games.

I never thought I'd say this but yes.. my iPhone is better than my PSP and DS. I actually sold my PSP because the games wernt that great and my DS is great but the games have bad graphics and are kinda childish. However the iPhone/iPod TOuch games are cheap fun addicting and the graphics are amazing considering what the games are playing on. And they are frequently updated and improved. I love my iPhone.

Virtual Reality is the future of gaming.
This is just a stepping stone to get the public more interested in it, touch technology that is. i think it is great tho, i loved playing games on my iPhone. it will definitely be something that sticks around for a long time, i think.

virtual reality seems quite a way of yet, the next big thing in the gaming world looks to be voice recognition technology as used in "Endwar". The iphone/ipod touch are clearly not the future of gaming, the games are great for what they are and graphics wise probably better than the handheld consoles by sony n nintendo, just a gud game shud immerse you in the action/story these do not.
The future of portable gaming ? gud chance, but not gaming out right.

If the big game companies care for Iphone/iPod Touch, with sure it will be, like Konami, SCEA and others.

To me, it seems like the answer depends on who you ask. All of my hXc gamer buddies claim that it won't be because the games would either be too casual, or the lack of tactile buttons pushes them away.

But my casual gaming buddies want an iPhone because of some of the games that are available.

Just to let you all know. There's going to be an iPhone/iPod Touch version of Metal Gear Solid. No news has been released yet on weather it'll be a remake of a currently finished MGS game, or something totally new for it but time will tell.

I'd be interested to see how they will work out the button configuration, obviously using touch technology but exactly how it comes in to the games format with the MGS games being so strategy based.

id say on the ipod touch because the iphone needs alot of battery power(trust me) and the ipod touch has a higher clocked cpu @528 mhz .. you would need this to compete with the ds/psp since the virtual controller sucks imo.

Not really.

When you think of gaming you think of Sony, Nintendo and Sega and none of those really want to support the iPhone with their franchises.

Take care.

hmmm i think that an all in one device is the true future of portable gaming...And that will be the only reason that i wouldn't bet on the PSP.For me the iphone is the future of portable gaming;maybe not in its current form and capabilities but certainly an upgrade version of it could.
In the same way that we jumped from portable media players to phones that have the same potentials -killing in that way for the most part the portable media player market- i can see that happening for gaming as well.To put it in other words i can't see why it wouldn't happen eventually. ^^ Again that's a really good thread :)
