My Mom is now a member of Geeks!
"Cool, but you're not a geek mom" I thought. Wait a second... She is 61, she is on Twitter, Facebook, she owns an ipod touch, a netbook, a wii?? Maybe she is far geekier than I thought?
COOL, that's the sweetest thing and my daughter finds it weird her mom (me, myself, I)has a myspace page. Datz only cuz her friends ask, Hey, who dat? and she'll be like, that's my OLD mother and she already has my sons diapers to change she don't want to change yours too. lmao.
I know how you feel. My mom is more of a gamer geek than I am! She plays video games all the time. By the way, she's 45 years old. Not that age matters, it's just the fact that I'm 25 and she's better at it than I am.
Take it from me, your Mom is a geek, and you should be as proud of her as I am. It's tough being an "older person" in the geek world and being a woman at that! Believe me when I say it's lonely out here. Many of the young geeks (even the female ones) don't give us older lady geeks much respect.
I'm 52 and my kids, family, and friends come to me for advice on many computer and internet related questions. I'm not exactly sure how it all happened, it just came pretty easy to me. I got my first computer back in the early 80's before some of you geeks were even born! I am an internet marketer, so becoming a social network geek came with the deal. I want to learn design and more about hardware. I still need all the help I can get in those areas.
Sooo...let your Mom know how proud you are of her. It will mean a lot to her. As for the rest of the geek world, remember "geek" is like age, it's a state of mind and not just a number.
I think your Mom has had a strong 'inner geek' since we were kids. You always had the coolest video game systems and I remember her giving us twenty bucks to rent a Super Nintendo from the video store when F-zero came out.
Glad to see the geek gene went to you Cam. Your mom is an amazing woman. I cannot say enough good things about her... including the fact that she is a geek like us.
Welcome to Geeks Wanda!
