Yes and NO.
Some people does not know Linux
and I think it is good to tell them what Linux is all about
so they can see if it is best for their machine and needs.
Ive been using ubuntu for 2 years now ,
And imo its the best way faster more stable doesn't crash or give me dam viruses.
The only thing it lacks is games , But there is an easy fix running a VM under linux but then the performance isnt the best.
Whats wrong with both? If you really need windows and don't want deal with Wine then you can just dual-boot. I usually never use windows but sometimes I do to game. Ubuntu Linux doesn't really require any real knowledge about Linux so and with WINE or Cedalga you can run anything with windows.
I suppose my only question is what do you need? As nice as Ubuntu is I can't properly run Paint Shop Pro with any compatability layer that is offered for Linux and I don't like the GIMP. So I use windows to run my windows programs.
Also, just try linux now. If you can download it many forms of linux offer the option to run off of the CD. Ubutnu, and Knoppix are the two I've done this with. Take it for a spin.
From there you can decide what you like, and whether or not you would want to give up or dual-boot a windows system.
For me personally, I have no reason to use a Linux system of a Windows system. It's nice, but it's no big deal if I don't do it.
It is a matter of opinion to be entirely honest and also up to personal preference. In my opinion, I prefer Windows for the familiarity and the compatibility :)
You can always try the Ubuntu LiveCD. What this does is load the entire OS from a CD, ready to be used. You don't install anything or change your system, it just works :)
