Increasing minimum wage will help people live a bit over the poverty line. Not much if at all. Do you know that in 2007 there were 37 million people in this country living at or below the poverty line?
To give you an idea of how many people that is, in 2007 there were 36.5 million people who lived in California. Just imagine. A family of four who made $19,971 will be considered at poverty level if they made one dollar less. Shocking. Isn't it? Do you think that it is more important for a teenager to have a job than for a man or woman who needs to support their family?
Read this. It is a couple of years old and outdated now since so many people have lost their jobs. However, if it help you to understand better. Proverty in America
Anubis, I think I remember asking you if you planned to get a job this summer and you said no. Why are you so upset about this if you do not plan to work? Adults have families to support. Every little bit helps when raising a family. How would you like to be one of those people who can only get minimum wage jobs as an adult?
I think you are mistaken about me saying no on looking for a job, I have been trying since before school got out.
Look @ my example above..>That is why increasing the minimum wage would be the wrong thing to do, I wrather be employed making 5.00 dollars and hour compared to not having a job at all...This is very simple..>The more employers have to pay people, the less people they will hire.
In my town, if you don't know people, then you work at a grocery store. And I applied to around 20 places, and well nothing. Got to try web design, make a little off of that maybe....
Un-employment in my town is probably around 20% officially it is 16% but that does not take into account the people that have simply given up looking for a job --like I pretty much have--
Wow, I really feel bad for you guys. But I remember one of my first good job in 89" (man, some of you weren't even born lol.)
I made $8.50 hr. Yeah, to me I was making alot of money. Actually if you think about it, for the times it was ok. money.
But I kinda agree and disagree. I agree with you guys about employment being so tough and if MW went up companies will reconsider highering and or fire individuals to keep company $$ under control. And yes, I know for some $$ is better than no money. Been there, I remember way back when I went to job interviews and WTF? I over qualify !!!! I just want a job pay me anything. And they would just say sorry your over qualified for this position. That used to get me so pissed. I guess cause there afraid u can just WTF out at any given time. Don't know.
But I disagree because I (personally) look at it like this the higher the MW goes the more they have to pay me. I think we pay our student workers $7.25 or something like that. Now that works for many. U walk in there with experience they can't offer u $10? WTF?
MWage can be used to your advantage.
Where I work we don't get individual raises. We get one every year. Which in a way sucks too. Because we have quite a few slackers and u know what raise time comes around WE ALL get that raise. So that I'm not too happy with. We also get a check for a few hundred $$ in the middle of the year as a thank you for your hard work last year kinda. It depends on how well the college did the past year. That's also pretty cool but the same. Hey, fk some didn't deserve this money.
But all in all it could be so much worst. And everytime I hear u guys talk I feel bad and Yes, appreciate my job so much more.
Put it this way, I use the phrase "Datz not my job" much less now!! lmao
but I don't know I feel bad for you guys.
So I'm kinda stuck in the middle.
Anubis, I apologize. I suppose I thought you meant you had no plans to work when you left these two remarks on my page. I can see now that I probably was wrong.
Anubis wrote***Not doing t much this summer ust have a week long computer camp down @ Feris State Univeristy in June, and then the rest of the summer will be spent vegitating lol.

As for my plans I intend to relax this summer, --We put an addition on our house last summer, which was a lot of work lol-- But I might have a job working for my schools tech dep. this summer. And will be playing air soft a lot lol.**
When wages go up, people spend more money. When people spend more money, it creates more jobs. I do not think that is hard to figure out. However, according to the research that I have done on this, there seems to be two schools of thoughts on it.
Anubis, I am not picking on you sweetie, I am just saying what I think just like you are.
I am sorry guys that yáll are having a hard time finding jobs. It seems that yáll are not alone. Right here on Geeks, I have adult friends that most of yáll know, who have years of experience but can not find a job. It has nothing to do with minimum wage, it has to do with the state of the economy. It will not last. It never does. As I have said before, I have seen our country in bad shape before and we worked our way out of it. We will again.
Good luck to all of you young people out there looking for a job. Make looking for a job a job. Get up everyday with a plan on how and what you will do that day to find something. Mowing grass is an excellent way to make good money until you can land a job. Plus, Travicemo, you have a job with your dad if you want it. Just saying........
