oh and i guess cigarettes are so much cleaner. not trying to argue just pointing out that its not worse simply because its illegal, in fact it actually burns cleaner than tobacco.
I went thru those years in the late 70's- early 80's. I can testify this stuff is very much no damn good for you, or the people around you. Very long story which I will not post here. All in all, I wish I had never done the first puff. Sometimes people have to just learn the hard way, and will not listen to those that have been around the block a few times.

The oils from the plants itself can be used for fuel, and used to make Plastic. Definitely much cleaner to the planet than plastics from the Black Gold (AKA, Oil)
1 acre of the stuff can produce as much paper as 4.1 acres of trees. And its also much cleaner to produce paper out of Marijuana than it is from trees.
So whats keeping it illegal? Corporations who don't want to loose their power, OPEC, and horrible propaganda.
Good levers/excuses, but can't be justified when misuse can cause so much damage and even death of innocents. I have personal experience at this. There are no argument that can be made to legalize this crap from hell. I know the effects, and I know the results, there is no wiggle room here. If one had the faculties to control their own use methods, maybe not so bad, but just like alcohol, it is misused and innocent people die.

The reports on Marijuana Nixon got back during his time in office actually refutred many of the bad effects that were being spread via propaganda.
The plant itself, without any other added chemicals or anything, is a quite harmless drug. Problem is, the way you have to actually get the said plant also creates an environment for people to do stupid shit and put other chemicals into the mix.
As far as health effects. The health effects of living in a large city where you're taking in the WONDERFUL smell of fossil fuels burning is probably worse in long-term effects than Marijuana has. But hey, if we can run our car off of something that can be grown from a plant, that is not grown from Corn, it will help out that much economy-wise and environmentally.
and hey, don't you just hate how weak Plastic can be these days? And how it just doesn't Biodegrade. Well, thats oil-made plastics for ya. How about using a better alternative, such as, I dunno, plastics made from the oils of the Marijuana plant? 10x stronger than conventional steel you know. Henry Ford in the 1940s made a car that had plastic panels made from the Marijuana plant, he hit it with a sledgehammer, it didn't break, dent, or bend. It also ran off of Marijuana.
Oh, and Paper. Thousands of trees are torn down because of our heavy paper usage. Obama's wanting of more bureaucracy isn't helping much at all. The Marijuana plant, which grows much quicker, can use much less space to produce more paper than trees do. Also requires less energy and chemicals to make paper out of the Marijuana plant than it does trees.
The plant can do so much for helping with a cleaner air, cleaner environments around us, a better economy, longer lasting plastics. Its health benefits for us, and the planet in the future can far outweigh the negative effects it has on the select percentage of people that do smoke it.
And just a little note, no, I do not believe in the bullshit theory of Global Warming, but I do believe what we do and use will have a direct effect on our direct environment around us. Especially in terms of health. For example, the smoke from the power plants isn't exactly gonna cause global warming, but its direct effects are more serious when it comes to lungs and your breathing. I've lived in two states that have had Nuclear Power Plants, and I didn't see people around me have much breathing problems until we moved here to Kentucky, which is strictly a coal state, sadly.
I don't care what has been refuted nor by whom, I know first hand. There is no substitute for first hand. I know the people I hung out with that "imbibed" first hand as well. Heads can be put in the sand and ignore the obvious, but once detached and an objective view can be achieved, it becomes all to plain. Basically anything that makes you "high" is a threat right there, from that alone. We don't need to be 'high' people only think they do, find something to laugh about, like the Three Stooges, as laughing high is the best natural high one can have, and it's much better for you.
'Plastics' have been dramatically improved over the years, but there are high end industrial plastics that are as hard as steel, machinable, and more flexible. Consumers get the low grade crap, and always will.
I'm not promoting fossil fuels here, that is beside the point, and two wrongs, or two bad products do not make a right one. Hydrogen is the nearly perfect fuel and energy source.
I agree with you on the clean air and environment policy, but it must be done with balance, demand, and common sense, something politics don't seem to possess. Then there is this huge hurdle with getting other countries to follow, like China.
In regard to paper/trees, this is a renewable and recyclable resource. Generally 5 to 7 trees are planted for every one harvested. New forest better then old forest, even after devastating fires forests grow back. There are also wood substitutes which are in use in other nations, but it's big industry here in the U.S.
Basically, if the MJ plant, otherwise known as HEMP, which was also used to make rope in WWII, is that flexible, there is probably a better less toxic substitute that can be harvested or created. Necessity is the mother of invention.
I commute 60 miles a day for the last 23 years, I hear you on the bad drivers thing. If it wasn't for other more alert people there would be blood all over the highways every day. But when you get two dolts in the same place in it's disaster time. I can't figure how some people get licenses, Lucky Charms?.
