Hello all
I have a nasty virus inside my PC, the Win32 Sality or Win32/Sality as recognized by AVG Free Edition which if you had a problelm with this fellow before reading this message you might know how hard is to get rid of it.

Here's how the virus acts if you hadn't encounter-it yet: The Sality threat spreads its code in most of the main installation Windows files,I think I got it even on my XP CD as it was in the drive when I runned an infected file whitout knowing that it was infected (hope this is just what I think) it also blocks Task Manager's Ctrl+Alt+Del combination and sends sensitive data to a certain mail adress.

I already tried some tools designed for it as it is a high risk threat and most antivirus software can't delete-it looks like it worked for a part of the files infected but it looks like its code still spreads. Tehnically most of my software is not working properly when I launch them instead of running normally they create a new copy of the virus.

Is there some way to remove-it manually? Or is there any software that will eventualy help me solve this situation? Many thanks to anyone who will answer this question.

Hello again to all who replied to this video, I would like to say thanks to all for you're answers, but it looks like the only way I could fix it is by reformatting my Hard Drive. It lokks like the virus entered into my external drive too. hope i could fix it whitout reformatting that one as well.

One of my old roommates, who was rather clueless when it came to virus protection, ran into this exact issue not so long ago. I wouldn't worry about it infecting your XP disc, but what I did find it to do was infect nearly every .DLL within System & System32.

You did the right thing in reformatting and doing a fresh install, even if you were to clean all the infected files from within safe mode, which is what I had attempted to do, for every 1 you're able to target and clean, about 6 or 7 more seem to become infected.

If you have an older machine in which you can afford to mess around with a bit, I'd look over your external on a secondary machine first, as there is a chance it has become infected.

I know a virus that can erase almost everything in the computer making it impossible to fix except to reformat and reinstall all over.
2 solutions to avoid that = 1-An anti-virus with real-time protection 2-Making an image backup of your OS to an external HD.
If you are a serious gamer and want performance in your PC I suggest your skip the first step.
