Hey Guys!

I recently purchased an LG Rumor and must say that I love the phone- but definately not the service. I am mostly a texter, and only got the phone because I wanted it for texting / mobile purposes, therefore I got the prepaid fun 20 plan where I get unlimited texting and mobile browsing with caller display. I pay $20 for the plan + $3.95 fee/mo which to me, is fine considering 1) Its prepaid and 2) I'll be getting a new phone in June and wasn't in the mood to settle with a 2 - 3 year term contract.

Anyhow, when I got the phone, I was pretty happy with it- Got a 2gb Micro SD card with adapters so I can transfer media files to and from my PC, but what I have noticed was that I could not upload ring tones- If I wanted specific ringtones, Id have to buy them at $3.50CND a piece.. So I was like no way! F*** that! So I hunted for a USB cable which of course NO ONE SELLS! I checked Wal-Mart, Future Shop, The Source... No one carried it so I went on eBay and got one for $5.00USD shipping included.

I received my USB cable on Friday- (Currently Sunday) and I am trying to figure out how to 'hack' my phone to my preference. When I plug the USB cable, I get three options 1) Mass Storage 2) Phone as Modem and 3) Print. Also, Windows XP picks up that it has Found New Hardware, but there's no software for it. Speaking of which, I went online in search for software but found nothing. Bitpim was mentioned, but my phone did not appear in the list.

In general, all I want to do is be able to import ring tones to my cell phone from my PC via USB cord and export all data from my phone to PC as a backup in case I were to lose it/break it etc. Once I figure that out, I would like to hack it to the point where I can unlock features locked by Bell so you have to pay for it. If someone could please help me out, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Best Regards
Neil

Looks like mine LG Chocolight, you can't find any accessory.

Lg usually don't have software and this things, was the same thing with mine.

It makes no since because for me as a user, I believe that I should be able to customize the phone to my needs and my preferences. Again, if I could upload ring tones just to pimp it out a bit, I would be really happy!

I'm not familiar with LG phones, but I was able to get around the MP3 ring tone lockout on my Motorola RAZR2 V9. It turns out that the firmware that comes with most (if not all) cell phones is designed to prevent unauthorized MP3 files from being used as ring tones. So unless you buy the ring tone from your provider, it will not work.

All I did to get around this was to convert my MP3 ring tone to AAC format, which my phone also supports. (My phone also requires that the bit rate be no higher than 128 Kb/s, no larger than 300 KB in size and no longer than 30 seconds in duration.) All I did after that was load the file into the folder on the phone that holds all of the ring tones and then select and apply it in the media finder. That's it.

I don't know if this will work on your phone though. A few quick searches on Google should get you all the information you need to figure out what file formats your phone will support as well as encoding information and where to dump the files when you're done. Good luck! :)

I found a simple way to do it,

1. Cut a clip of the song you want try to make it around 10sec
2. Put it on the sound file in your Micro sd card
3. Go to sounds>send sound
4. Message the sound to yourself
5. Save as a ringtone.

open the mp3 in a audio editor capable of changing the format to 32bit signed pcm wav file cut out the sections you dont want till the total length is about 30 seconds or less rename the file then convert the format to mp3 again this should strip any licensing from the original mp3 then blue tooth the files to the phone

The LG Chocolate USB cable from WalMart works with the Rumor and a few others. Costs $15.00 and is a little fragile. Also charges the phone in about two hours.

Here's the LG USB Modem software that I use with my Rumor phone. Works well.
