My email inbox gets flooded with spam email almost on a daily basis.
Most of which having to do with pornographic material which is
interesting because I do not visit sites of that nature, nor do I do I
use this email for signing up for anything. It's strictly for personal
email. I have my own email server running on a my dedicated Windows
Server hosted by The Planet (www.theplanet.com) which makes me wonder if
spamers specifically target personal servers like mine. Is there
anything I can do to eliminate or at least cut down on the amount of
spam I am receiving? I tried Mail Washer, but I dont like how you have
go though every single message and decide whether it's spam or not.
Maybe you know of some kind of software what will help even if its a
server-side software? Anything is better then when I am getting now.

It makes me look like some kind of perv when I am checking my email in
some kind of public environment and other people can see my inbox! All
help or any kind of suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks again.

Regards,
Cam Black

Some websites and/or facilities in which you give information to have the legal right to sell your information to other companies (i.e. your bank). This could be why you are getting as much spam as you are. This can also happen through some social networking sites. A general rule of thumb is, the more websites you are associated with, whether it be a forum or otherwise, increases the chances that someone may sell your personal info to other companies.

If you are in fact watching porn, I suggest you buy DVDs instead of streaming it online, assuming you can afford to do so. Even if a particular website does not necessarily have viruses, they could contain spyware/adware which will pull information from your system and then they will sell that to companies to make up for the fact that you're not actually paying for the material.

The same needs to be said for P2P filesharing networks. The music files you downloaded could be virus free, but it can also leave you open for spam attacks given the fact that you usually have to provide your e-mail address in order to use Kazaa and/or similar software.

Lastly, make sure you have a decent Internet security suite on your system to further prevent things such as this.

I agree with everything above also some ISP's offer anti-spam protection so if I were you I would look into that. Also if you have spam problems I do not suggest posting it on a public forum like this.

I think pretty much everyone gets spam. I know I get a lot of it, but I usually just set my junk e-mail filter to automatically put e-mail that is from someone other than the people that I have in my address book in the junk e-mail folder. Then, when I log into my account, I just automatically get rid of anything in the junk e-mail folder. It makes my life much simpler that way.

Knock on wood, I never had any major spam problems.

Speaking of spam, computer viruses, and lockups. I don't think I've ever had to restart my computer since I have gotten Google Chrome. Before that, my computer always seemed to crash with Firefox, which is unfortunate because, as a whole, I like Firefox. It's just so much slower than Firefox that is unbelievable. I still have Firefox installed on my system mind you, but I only use it when I have to.

I hate all of the current internet browsers Safari 3 ftw.

In the interest of being unbiased, I tried Safari 4. I wasn't too impressed with it, as it did not seem any more special than Firefox. I have not tried Safari 3 though.

Yeah I need something to find that I like soon though because I am being forced to upgrade soon.

From XP to Vista, or Windows Vista to Windows 7?
I posted it on here because Pirillo said to.

Thank you very much for your suggestions. I do not visit porn sites at all, and the email address of which I am having problems is used for nothing more then personal email. I have a different address for registrations and spam mail.

I have a security suite though Road Runner its the CA Internet Security Suite. It doesn't seem to do much good
