I don't think it's a big government conspiracy. I mean they benefit from it yes. But I do believe the point behind Global Warming is that people would not listen to the ideas of cleaning up and decreasing pollution without some sort of crisis. And let's face it even if our planet doesn't heat up because of it, pollution is bad.
"The Power is yours!" as a silly eco-friendly cartoon once said as it urged us to be clean and protect our world better.
Then again I am slightly worried that Obama seems to believe Global Warming is a scientific fact.
1. Ice caps have melted farther than they have before, and their size has remained diminished during their cold periods more than ever before.
2. You might measure individual polar bear's mortality by whether or not they can swim, but that's not how you predicat a polar bear population's survivability. You measure the population's survivability by whether the pregnant mothers in the population come to term at a normal weight, and whether or not their offspring are born at normal weight. When you find too many samples of the population that aren't at normal weight, then you know the population is under stress.
3. Ice bergs do float in water, and they have something in common with ice cubes in a glass, but ice caps and glaciers don't. Ice bergs are in the water, ice caps and glaciers rest on land masses. The label "ice caps" is a misnomer for the ice that covers polar regions for two reasons. First polar ice covers millions of square km, while the definition of an ice cap limits to 50,000 square km. Second, an ice cap is on land, whereas polar ice caps rest on land but also cover sea. The part on the sea would be better named "pack ice." At one time the IPCC predicted the polar ice caps would last till 2100. In 2007 many of their membership began to say it might not last past 2030.
The Greenland ice sheet rests entirely on land, and is about 2.6 cubic km of ice. Water sinks to the bottom till it reaches about 40 degrees F, and then rises as it becomes ice. A glass of ice berg would have an amount of ice higher than the top of the glass, similar to an ice berg in the sea. When it melted, the ice that was higher than the glass would indeed overflow the glass.
4. Glaciers are frozen fresh water. When they melt into the sea, they change the temperature and salt content of the sea. Those changes contribute to changes in the gobal currents, which brings, not just warmer weather, but weirder weather. Which explains "coldest winter ever" and some of the violent storms we've had.
Hmmm, Australia is having a heat wave while Antarticia is losing its ice sheets due to melting....
IT's SUMMER Time in that part of the world!
Hmmm, Florida USA is having a cold wave while the artic is gaining enormous amounts of ice due to freezing....
IT's WINTER Time in that part of the world!
Hmmm, the region known as the Equator is having..... Nothing?? Does anybody know?? Anything to report??
IT's in that part of the world!
AND 20 years ago, there was 'Global Cooling' with opposite predictions as now.....just swap what is being said with 'choose-your-region'
It's true that -- at one time -- many in science predicted a new ice age. But that was 40 to 60 years ago, not 20 years ago. Carl Sagan (an astronomer, not a climatologist), hung on to that into the early 80s. None of the scientists deny that weather is cyclical. I bet there's never been one that didn't know about summer & winter. On the contrary, most of them celebrate the fact that nature tries to correct itself in favor of equilibrium. About 20 years ago some of them recognized that wasn't happening in the same cycle it had before. That phenomenon has come to be called global warming.
The best scientists welcome a healthy debate about it. Disagreement about what the correct data is, and what the best way to interpret the data is, is the best way to get at the truth. The fact that there isn't universal agreement is a good thing for science, not a bad thing.

Who is this "they" and what is your evidence? You were never able to provide one bit of evidence that 30,000 climatologists have said global warming is not real.
Well, many global climate deniers point to the substantial agreement on global warming as though it were a conspiracy theory. The video clips in this blog show that scientists are completely free to disagree about climate warming. From the titles in one of the clips you can see that one of the deniers is even a member on the IPCC.
So, I don't see how it can be a conspiracy. I don't think it'd be easier to keep a global warming conspiracy a secret than it'd be to keep a Moon Landing conspiracy or a Holocaust conspiracy a secret. Maybe we could get a climate change conspiracy theorist to explain that.
The Global Warming Hype worked well for Al Gore.
It got him a Nobel prize.
Glad to see he got something since he wasn't a very good VP and
couldn't get himself elected no matter what he tried.
its real, but its not really that bad. Its another way to make money out of scaring people. "oh look, global warming, I know a good way to solve it, lets put all the prices up and drive ourselves into economic mayhem!"
But am sure the next generation will find a way to solve it.
