Still running XP on 3 of 4 machines - why? - On the main machine because I'm kind of too lazy to search for Vista compatible software that I'm using for years on XP now. On the two others mainly because of performance issues, however since those are used for Multimedia/Radio streaming/Mediacenter it wouldn't make the big difference upgrading those

I still run XP, and I have to strongly disagree with your advice. I hate vista with a passion, and I think I'll hold out on windows 7 till i can get a machine to test it on. There are just to many irritating bugs about vista, especially on a Windows Domain. Plus I have way to much software that is incompatable with vista, mainly at work.
I used Vista, I hated it, I went back to XP. I've given it the benefit of the doubt and even tried it again after SP1 and still found it crap for my needs. I won't upgrade to Vista or Windows 7, I'll upgrade to Mac OS X next. As soon as I have the money I'm moving away from Windows as my main OS for good.
Well, XP is such a mainstream operating system (even more so than Win98 and 2000), that vendors have no choice but to support XP for at least three or four more years, and after witnessing a friend try to upgrade to Vista on his computer (he has the same exact machine as I do, even the same GPU and sound card) and not getting any sound and having a sketchy picture and graphics, I will more then likely be using my XP rig for school work and what not until the day it dies, and if I absolutely need to switch to a new computer, I'll more than likely build a new Windows 7 rig.
We still run Windows XP here at work and we have no plans on upgrading anytime soon. I do use Vista at home, the 32 bit version and will be upgrading to the 64 bit version soon. I will aslo upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as its available.

why do you advise me to upgrade? XP does everything i need it to, its quick and stable. I see absolutely no reason to move to vista. I will upgrade to windows 7 when the time comes, but for now I'm 100% content.
I still run XP SP3. I don't plan to upgrade until I know Windows 7 is ready and that might not be for a while. I have used Vista and didn't like it at all. It's too slow with too many command prompts.
I use XP. I am happy with what I have. My husband used to say, "if it's not broke, don't fix it".
Besides, not all of us can afford to make changes. I don't think my laptop has room on it to do much more. Plus I would have to pay someone to help me make any changes. So I will remain content with what I have.
