But, I say it needs to be legalized. We spend FAR more money than is necessary to keep it illegal, when instead we could be controlling the industry like the tobacco and alcohol departments and taxing them up the wazoo, making LOTS of money that could be going to extremely necessary programs- like the nationalized health care system we are far, far overdue for (that these drug users will need extensively in the future!)

The problem is- when you deny something, it simply creates a black market that wastes taxpayer dollars on enforcement that never makes progress, and also creates situations where dangerous forms of the drug might be distributed without the oversight behind it.

The one thing that must be done if they do make it legal is unlike alcohol, it must be illegal to drive if you've smoked ANY. It is a proven scientific fact that smoking Marijuana makes you slow and dumb, particularly under its influence, despite the smokers whining otherwise. I saw this first hand with a former co-worker, who was a very bright guy, but we'd get together to play a card game and after him and his brother would smoke, they would forget the rules of the game, become disinterested, and their reaction times were very slow- serious dangers for drivers. We need all of our cars to require breathalizer and drug testing to allow the car to start.

Other than that- they should be allowed to smoke to their heart's content- so long as they don't smoke around other people who don't wish to get cancer from second hand smoke.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by Alex on July 18, 2009 at 7:40pm: Marijuana isn't that big of a deal. It is something that just naturally grows. SOmething Mother Nature has given us. But when it comes to chemicals "LSD, Meth" or changing the form "cocaine" then those are worse, but you can still function perfectly fine on Marijuana compared to alcohol. Do they not realize that its easier for gets to get weed because it is illegal and there is not age restriction compared to booze??? I think they should legalize it up 2 an 1 ounce. Maybe given have to buy a "tax stamp" type thing that allows u to legally have it. then use the money from that stamp, card, whatever and give it back to us "free/reduction in health care and/or college."; ▶ Reply to This

I dont want a big argument about this but as a person with some of these medical problems myself and with family members with both Cancer and Muscular disease,legalizing Marijuana would be a God Send!; ▶ Reply to This
