I'm twenty-eight years of age and I am really concerned about my generation and what I am seeing in the generations to come. I think as a people we have really lost something...somewhere through the years. We as a people have come leaps and bounds in science and technology but as a society I feel we are really lacking. Young folks don't read anymore (something I am passionate about). They sit in front of computer screens (well...me too but...moderation is the key) and play Warcraft, watch Youtube, and play on Myspace all day and night. They hardly play outside (once again me neither...I hate sports...I find them pointless but being the devil's advocate...) and are growing obese. I think it also hurts their social skills...face to face personal skills; to sit in dark room all the time playing PS3. I guess as great as it is science and technology need to be used in moderation just like alcohol or coffee.
I am also concerned with our societies great strive for perfection in their bodies. One sees all these runway models who look sick...and all the teenage girls are in the bathrooms puking up their supper. Then you have all the plastic surgery. I mean that is crazy to me. Not to mention all the Christian folks who believe their bodies are temples...that Jesus was the only perfect being. Then why the hell are you nipping and tucking you temple and striving to be the next Pamela Anderson. Also, our obsession with Hollywood and the lives of the rich and famous. We are living our lives concentrating on other people's lives...insanity. We have evolved so much as a people we are starting to devolve. I think we are or getting close to being at that point. I mean folks I went to school with (while being pretty bright in studies) are completely commonsenseless. I just want people to be able to live if there is...let's say...no electricity or no Publix or no gasoline. These are real situations that could happen. I expect the best, but as a society we have to be prepared for the worst.

"Christian folks who believe their bodies are temples...that Jesus was the only perfect being." I am Catholic so I can comment on this...90% of Christians DON'T try to be perfect and we belive the body is sacred because well...it is...Our bodies are the image of God.

I mean...your writing words but what do they mean? How did you get the 90%? Is that documented? Where do you get your information? Even IF your information is correct...1 in 10 is pretty crappy for a religion. You missed a vowel...belive=believe...I like to use dictionary.com...it's a good reference. Thanks for the reply.

I consider myself very fortunate to live in the time that I am living now. I'm 23 now and I I have really grown up with technology and tv. I mean when I was a kid I got to watch the progression of video games, I mean the NES was out in 1983, the Nintendo 64 was out in 96, I was like 11. The perfect age for most of those games. I mean hell, do you remember how Mortal combat was such a big deal; like it was teaching kids about violence. And on TV back then we were all watching full house and boy meets girl.

In 1995 playstation came out but most people I know didn't have one until about 2000, I was 15, The perfect age for silent hill, tony hawk, final fantasy 7, resident evil ect.

I wasn't allowed to watch married with children or simpsons when I was little! But kids now really are exposed to more then we ever were. I just think everything was so age appropriate when we were growing up that we don't realize how screwed up kids are getting from all this Hanna Montana / manhunt / reality television crap.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think things should be censored, I just think parent should teach there kids some values the way tv taught me when I was a kid. TV and video games made a good babysitter when I was a young, but not anymore.

Thanks for the reply. I think it does come back to the parents and their teachings and values. I enjoyed thinking about the old video systems...I got them in a box around here somewhere...

I am a combination of everything you said I think. I spend alot of time on the computer, but I exercise and stuff like that, and I try to hang out with friends and things. I don't mind reading... but I really don't like books lol; like reading a news article or something is good, reading a novel is not. I am a christian, I don't think I'm the "my body is a temple" type person, I don't drink or smoke but not necessarily for that reason. And again with the christianity thing, I do believe only God is perfect. I am not at all interested in hollywood, I mean why would I care about any stars more than anyone else?

But I would agree with you society is getting worse and worse. Other teenagers seem to be getting stupider and stupider (common sence wise). I myself am 16 and I don't really have a whole lot of friends because the type of people worth being friends with are getting rare. I've also noticed how liberal people have became. Look at someone like JFK who was a democrat, but he was way more conservative then somebody like John McCain. Or Ronald Reagan who was a democrat most his life and when asked why he became a republican he said "I did not leave my party, my party left me".... and its absolutely true.

People nowadays tend to be willingly ignorant about things..... oh well I guess...

People are becoming more antisocial through the likes of the internet and gaming and this leads to people being more violent.

Take care.

I don't know...you have a very good point but we would need to do some research. A very good point though...and I think it would easily be proved a theory.
