Back in the days when cars had style, and even with so many makes and models, all changing every year, the car manufacturers always made a profit.
It's amazing that today, the largest car manufacturer ( General Motors ) needed to declare bankruptcy.
Our country which prides itself on free enterprise, now has the Government entering the car business. It's already in the banking business. What next ???
I remember some of these cars, my Mom had a 1957 Chrysler DeSoto and a 1965 AMC (American Motors Corporation) Rambler convertible; Nash and Hudson were discontinued brands at this point.
And around the same time we also had a 1967 Mercury Comet and a 1968 Ford Mustang.
This is a sad time for the passing of the American car industry, we will never see great cars like this ever again because of all of this greed and mismanagement which leads to lack of morals and ethics which seems like standard practice today. I wish it was not so, but I have not seen any thing / change out there to make me think different.
Most of those cars looked futuristic for their day, makes me wonder why they don't use those shapes again :(. These days all cars look beige and exactly the same and boring etc.
I'm not worried about the US government infiltrating other industries. I'm more concerned that the European car makers are not getting the same hack and slash treatment and I know that the administrators of some of those European car makers are doing the same thing as GM.
ah i am a total motor head and i can tell you, Car styling has been murdered! And don't reply saying anything with Lamborghini is awesome or Ferrari lines or any of that _____ The popper cars were the BIG American classics and British and Italian sports cars.
Been seeing this a lot lately. I'm only 25 but have been around at least 8 generations of cars because of my family. Were all very much classic car guys, but were all different. For example, me personally, I have 62 chevy II, dad has a 57 chevy wagon, grandpa's got a 72 lincoln mark, 2 or 3 mg's, and a 1953 crosley fire truck....go figure...lol But I will say, the styling in today's car's is just atrocious compared to those things.
Cars will never be the same. The sound of a 350 with straight pipes is the sound every American should enjoy. The only sound that is better is a Harley. Love that American Thunder!!!
I like the idea that the motor manufacturers are 'retroing' some of the older cars, their choice may be somewhat dimwitted. With the bankruptcy of GM an Chrysler It wil be sad to see it all go away.
