Download Our Windows 7 Tips!

Good bye, burn in hell windows,
This was my attitude this morning as I turned on my pc.It would not boot for anything. It kept going into the boot recovery mode windows 7 has. Then it gave me some crap saying it was recovered...but i booted up again...same thing over and over...and no this wasnt a virus...I have a commercial grade virus scanning, spyware blocking standalone firewall...plus when i scanned the drive in another pc there wasnt a thing detected!

Well long story short...I am now a happy ubuntu linux user, it took me 10 mins to install and i had a completely working system.I even managed to get my world of warcraft up and running in less that 5 mins on wine and that even works better than it did in windows.Ubuntu also detected my radeon 4890 and installed the drivers for me off the web...simple as eating a slice of pie.Ubuntu seems to also have more customization options for me to use to personalize my system and desktop like compiz(the cube desktop and the fancy effects) Everything else worked out of the box including my sound and network card and even all four cores of my phenom II 945 were recognized.I about faInted when I saw how much less ram was consumed by ubuntu as well(500mb ubuntu vs 1.2gb windows 7) Linux is trully becoming a dream/fantasy come true. Its not all command lines anymore guys. I even like how firefox and openoffice as well as a email client come pre-loaded!
Lastly I can boot up in seconds where windows 7 took a full min to boot.In earlier beta versions windows 7 booted faster but its getting slower...<<

Wish mine would run wow in wine, it always ran slow and had very bad drivers. Of course mine is a laptop as well.

You fail to mention what you did wrong in the first place to get to the point where it needed to recover. Considering that the large majority by far have no issues with Windows 7 or Windows in general...99 percent of problems are caused by something the user did that they shouldn't have. If this was the operating systems fault we'd see a lot of people having the same issue yet we don't. So again, what happened BEFORE you needed to recover? Did you uninstall a program or install one the night before? Did the system shutdown properly? There has to be something that occurred prior to this.

Enjoy Ubuntu. I like it as well, but I have a feeling you'll be back to Windows in short order. :)

Wow! You had an amazing experience. I only wish my Ubuntu installs didn't have more problems than I get with Windows or Mac OS X. I always seem to mess something up with Linux. That's probably the problem - you can customize it way too much.

That's very true. Many people like to switch or just try out linux because they hear that it is extremely customizable and less restrictive. But they don't realize that it's a two way street. Linux is not necessarily for the average user, and certainly not for a beginner (not that I'm calling you any of these). Linux is simple, yet very powerful. Most consumer OS's restrict the average user for their own good. And since the average user pretty much just surfs the web, write's/reads documents, and plays games, this is fine. For those of us who know a little more, we like to be able to customize or experience and squeeze as much juice out of our machines as possible and this is where linux really shines. I will say that the newer flavors are getting better for average consumers, but all it takes is for noob to stumble upon the command line, maybe learn a few commands and before you know it, they've f'd up their netbook.

Personally, I love Linux for what it is and hope for it to one day become even more mainstream. I also love Windows, even the later stuff, for it's power and potential (now if Microsoft would just trim the fat a little it would be much better). I also love OS X, because it's just plain awesome.

You managed to get World of Warcraft up and running in less than 5 minutes on Ubuntu? Amazing.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Linux, but good for you.
