Well if you want it for studying I guess it is going to have to be portable? So choose from the Laptop category.

You have three choices.

Macbook The Macbook is brilliant for "light" computer work... Its not exactly cheap but its the cheapest of all three Mac Laptops.

Macbook pro The Macbook Pro is the Macbooks "older brother" with increased specs (and a very increased price tag) its perfect for pretty much anything! You can even game on it (kinda) it comes with 2gb normal RAM and can be upgraded to 4gb
Macbook Air Not really a choice with this one, with no optical drive its kind of pointless, no music, no movies and certainly no games with the... Rubbish specs? Don't get me wrong its an awesome laptop but its more for travelling then it is for hardcore computer...ing?

One thing a friend does in your situation is he uses his macbook pro as his desktop with an ACD. But when its time for class he can just take it with him.

I'll assume you want a portable, in which case I'd recommend the new Alu MacBook. It's a lot faster than previous MacBooks and the NVidia chip gives it a lot more graphics power.*
If you need a bit more, go Pro, but honestly, I think baseline MacBook will do you grand.

*Look through YouTube for games running on it. Very little lag on high settings, whereas previous MacBooks lagged on low settings.

You say that you want to play games, which kinda games u say? World of Warcraft/DIablo/Starcraft and a few other games will run in OSX, but games like Fallout3/COD/Warhammer online and stuff, you'll need to run XP/Vista in Bootcamp!

Macbook Pro or iMac.

I'd recommend getting a MB Pro, although the new Macbooks can support some of the high end games.

You could always try chatting with a genius in store or online.
