The ONLY reason I even step foot into best buy is to see something in person. If I like it, then i'll order it off newegg. I remember looking at laptops when my friend was getting an Ipod with his mom and the sales person said (3 times i might add) "this laptop has a max resolution of one-hundred ninety x one-hundred eighty". He also said that "laptops with the stickers are the ones with good graphics". I rest my case.

I like the store ok, but I don't really care for the employees.. they can be pretty dishonest, or maybe they just don't have any idea what they are talking about.

geek squad takes advantage of people who do not know how to work on a computer.....or are just too lazy to do it

save you money and do it yourself....plus it gives you pride in your rig :)

I must say that I like it as a store. They have a large selection and the staff has been always willing to help find what you are looking for. At least when I have been there!

As for their computer services/geek squad: To tell ya the truth I have never even gone over and looked at what they have to offer. I have never had a reason too, I have either always fixed any problem that I had on my own or asked one of my friends to help out.

$150 to basically plug it in!!!
Oh and this is my favorite part.
"Organize wires and cables with your cable ties (ties not included)"
Are you kidding me? That's a joke inside of a joke.
"We can cable tie all your cables for you...do you have any cable ties?"

if they ran cables through the walls and ceilings then it might be worth it.....otherwise meh still a ripoff

i work in the IT field, and while I don't mean to put down anybody, i know that at the local best buys in our area we considered the geek squad a joke, made up of people who think they know more than they really do (to be fair, i'm sure there are some really talented people out there who deserve better than to be trapped in the retail hell known as best buy, but for the most part, the geek squad workers in my area always end up being the guys who think they know it all just because they once opened up a computer or installed a driver. these are the same people who ask why at my last job we bought dell computers instead of building them ourselves (my answer was because I never had the time to build 600 computers)or that if he were to ever get my job the problems that occur now would never happen. like i said, i'm sure there are some people that are in geek squad that know their stuff, but as for the rest, its not actually fixing the product as much as its just wiping it out completely and starting over, which in some cases is not needed, and in the end you are overcharging for doing something that didnt' always need to be done, such as formatting a hdd when running a virus/trojan/malware removal application would do the trick

i think in the end, its a matter of reading the instructions or looking online for some type of guide to tell you cabling, etc, or ask a friend or family member, there has to be someone who can help you (in my family, i'm "that guy")

I could never let geek squad (which by the way is an insult to Geeks everywhere) touch my computer, and the price is nothing short of theft, cause all they will do is exactly the same thing, an unattended OS reinstall.

I had a friend that had an HP under warranty, hard drive crashed, she sent it in under warranty, they fixed it free alright, and in the process wiped out all her valued photos and data, they basically wiped the drive clean and reinstalled, she was pretty upset. And yes, people SHOULD back up, but most don't until AFTER disaster. I dont know that any of the upper end driod repair shops care one ratz azz about you or your computer, just your $$$. This is one tech that is NOT like that. I treat evey customer as an individual, a real live human being that cares about their pride and joy. Too bad one doesn't ALWAYS get appreciated for it though... :D
