Yes I agree with JT, Norton ghost makes it fast is easy and you can do selective restoring from the clone drive.
But between cloning sessions, or if you're looking to just back up data directories by themselves if your data size is small enough you could quickly burn it to DVD.
Here's a sample of Norton Ghost backup from YouTube:

This should give you a good idea of what is involved. It is a lot easier to restore a hard drive in one hour from a cloned image, than it is to format your entire hard drive, reload windows from scratch, locate all of your applications and then install them one by one; and at last re-set up your printers and network. And that doesn't even mention your personal settings that you had.
cloning is good if you want to preserve everything of the computer the files, os, and programs. I clone my computer every once a while as a back up do if it crashed beyond repair or the hard drive fails i will be able to restore the clone and every thing will be the same. i would recomend Paragon backup and recovery. There is a free version on there web site, nut it took me a while to find it. one thing that makes paragon the best id because it is free and because it comes with a tool that lets you make a bootable cd or usb. This is good if you need to restore a computer that has crashed and can't boot into it, or if you need to restore to a new hard drive. i will also say that do not use clonezilla because when i used it it said the image i want retore was to big for the drive weh the image was from the same drive. also pargagone can retore an image to a smaller drive with is a rare function
