Maybe you require Audio drivers for your sound card?? Soz, haven't had the problem, but nice to bump this topic.

my windows 7 beta also has audio problems. Well the system audio works, it install my sound card drivers automatically, but when i play a game, or try to use slingbox the audio does not come through. i was thinking to try and disable the onboard sound card and try again, but that doesnt seem to make sence because the system sound works, just not in my desired application.. Just starting to look into it.. No audio is a deal breaker, if i cant get it to work soon, i'll just go back to vista.

I found a button in control panel, search for problems. And i selected my PCI card, it did something, and when finished it said fixed. device not set as default. Now my sound works in my apps!... i guess i will keep windows 7 beta around for a little longer...

Please elaborate to this. I have the same problem. I load up a game, the intro sound doesn't work, but the menu and ingame sounds ( guns, yelling, explosions) work. The mission briefing sound cut-scene doesn't work. Is it DivX? I've tried this game (Frontlines : Fuel of War) on Vista and the audio is fine, but I want to be able to play it on Windows 7. My audio drivers are up to date.

I have no audio problem whatsoever on XP. It is even better Quality on XP.

I found that relying on out-of-the-Windows-box software will lead to disappointing results. Instead, try your Vista drivers or the latest from your audio-board manufacturer.

What's your chip or audio controller ?
How old is your pc ?
What does messing around in device manager do ?
What does Windows update say ?
You should use the send feedback button about this so that Microsoft can get you a compatible driver.

Sorry about the previous post, i did not notice you said Virtual PC . It will probably never work like that.
Do a full install.

I agree with 9swords. Because you are running it using Virtual PC it will never have sound. You need to install it properly and install your sound driver as well.

Take care.

Missing drivers.

I have a rather humble AMD Socket 939 motherboard. It has a builtin Soundcard.

The motherboard isn't really up to handling multimedia.

But the soundcard was found automatically, and functions... as good as it did with Windows XP.
