Hello All!

Well, in this day in age, GPS is in many of the things we use. Whether it be our cars, our phones, separate, hand held, dashboard-mountable, or anything in between (including beer kegs, more on that later), we use it every day.

Do you take a bus to work or school? They may have GPS locators in them to ensure that their whereabouts are always know.

Or think of it this way: when you eat that amazing cream cheese bagel or you watch your huge Sony Bravia flat-screen tv, realize that from the time they began their production, to the time it arrived in your home (or your belly), it was either tracked by GPS, moved with equipment containing GPS equipment, or the car that you drove it home with has GPS in it.

So, in all essences, we all know GPS is all around us. But have you really ever stopped to think about what things in your home have been involved with GPS location?

Just take down a list of 5 things that you can physically see in your room right now (that doesn't include you:D)

Now, think about the production / shipping / development that took place in order for that product to reach you. It is amazing what you will find when you think about it!

GPS is a great technology, every year it gets more precise, more intelligent, more compact, and more intractable. While GPS may already be a everyday thing for our lives, it is getting better every day.

Take A-GPS or "Assisted-GPS" for instance. Many cellphone / tech geeks will know, that this is the GPS in cell phones (much so in the iPhone 3G). This GPS basically uses the satellites rotating around earth to gain a location for its position, but it ALSO uses cell towers and any available WiFi hot spots, to even more precisely pin down the location of the device.

So, as you can see, this technology is expansive and ever growing. This technology (even though nothing new) can be in amazing places.

I just thought I would ask you: Where is GPS located for you? Comment on it below, whether you personally use it or not, tell us where you think or know GPS is involved in how your things get to you.

Oh, and I also thought some thinking would be good :D

And by the way, that beer keg GPS? Its real, check it out at www.cnn.com : http://www.cnn.com/video/?JSONLINK=/video/tech/2008/09/02/wells.bee...

Thanks and comment below on your GPS and what brands you like!

Nicely written.

So what stuff around me involved GPS in one way or another? My iPhone 3g, Sony Bravia, PS3, computer, and probably a lot more stuff.

By the way, A-GPS also uses wifi around you.

I have a Garmin Nuvi and my cell phone has GPS. I bought the Nuvi because i had to fly into LA for business last year and thought it would help me get around. Absolutely amazing, i do not know how I lived with out this thing for almost 40 years LOL. Now I use it whenever I have to leave town (even to go to the next little town) and I use it in my small town to find places I haven't ever been.

I got my 65 year old father a Nuvi and now he is addicted, he ran out and bought a field GPS and has become a Geocacher! (for those that don't know Geocaching is an activity where you use high tech GPS to find tupperware in the woods.)

I don't use GPS. I use maps, and only rarely. I don't get lost, cos half the fun of getting lost is getting un-lost, and learning an area.

A year ago I received a GPS unit for my car as a gift and I don't know how I ever lived without it. We move a lot and I'm so glad to have it. God Bless whoever came up with the idea.
