Reviews, News, and How To Geeks

When I joined up, I had the intention of only putting my new site in the allotted profile field and leaving it at that, not using Geeks solely to spread awareness of my venture. I consider that out of respect for Chris, as without his advice I would not have really yet known about the direction I wanted to go in setting up my site. I err on this side of caution by default whenever I don't see any particular set of guidelines indicating whether it is permitted.

I have recently been getting invitations/messages to join other people's sites and I am wondering if this is one thing Geeks is willing to open up to, or if it is something that is undesirable (a.k.a. spam). I am not personally offended, and will certainly check out the few invitations I've been extended if it is clarified that it's ok on Geeks. I just want to make sure beforehand.

If this is or will be officially sanctioned, do you think there be some coordination to it, such as perhaps a forum topic or a group set up for it? Would there be limits, or free for all?

If it is not in the spirit of the site, how should it be reported/dealt with?

That has it pros and cons as well. On the one side, it can be annoying as well. Not everyone like to change up the way they are reading the given post. If I start a post on Geeks, give a good title, great prologue, and then a couple of great paragraphs with maybe a good photo or two, then redirect you to my blog on danielvining.com... then I can see how you would be irritated by having find where you left off on Geeks. It can be rather confusing. On the other hand, if I give a good title, intro photo or graphic and a good teaser, followed by a link to my blog, then maybe that wouldn't be so bad. I reference Chris P. He has profiles on tons of other sites and posts videos and blog posts to them. With most of them, he also references the full post to chris.prillo.com as well.

See, I agree with that part of that too, and we all try to promote and drive traffic to our own sites, and if we do it right we can all help each other out. I don't see a problem with doing so as long as we do it right. But thats just my opinion. If posts were going to be shortened to link to another site such like that I feel that they should follow a certain format so that it would look uniform and just. But thats just me.

These types of post will be deleted. Just us the report feature at the bottom of the page to let the admins know if you find one.

Like I said before, there is room for this practice if some rules and guidelines are introduced. Follow the rules, then your okay; don't and get punished somehow.

Actually, we prefer that there isn't so much spam on this site. It's getting out of control, and we are now deleting instances of spam as we come across them. Don't use our network simply to promote your own ning network (or any others). A link in your profile to your own site is fine. Spamming yourself in blog posts, forum posts, and other people's comments is NOT fine.

I don't think that kind of activity isn't needed, cause you have a field for showing your Homepage on your Profile
and it will cause that all the People you would get through spam posting actually have personal interest on viewing your site and probably stay there

I Agree! I get enough emails as it is, please do not add to it.

I will be sending out a message to anyone that spams me, threatening removal of friends it they do it again. Just because they are on your friend list (and I use that loosly) does not give you a right to send mass emails to them.
In fact an email is sent to over 5 people (unless it is actual people that you talk to on a regular basis and have given you permission to email them things of interest) then THAT IS SPAM!

It's a bit rude if you ask me.
And I agree with Q.

Same with others. Not interested in the extra spam.

It bothers me when I wake up to 20 messages inviting me to join another social network. Even more so when half of them are from the same person.
