[1] Sunbelt Personal Firewall 4.6.1845 - Leo Laporte the tech guy recommended this one as being both lightweight / fast and secure from his security now podcasts from http://twit.tv/
[2] ZoneAlarm Free 8.0.020.0 - This one is the one I use on my home computers.
[3] Sygate Personal Firewall 5.6.2808 - This one would be my third alternate if I needed one.
These are all free, and you can download them all from http://www.filehippo.com

I used to believe that ZoneAlarm was the best - and it was! Then they release version 4 and it went downhill from there.

Since then, I haven't been able to truely believe in or trust any free software firewall. Maybe a commercial software firewall from a reputable company like CheckPoint could be recommended. Not sure if I could recommend any other commercial company besides CheckPoint.

Other than that - I try and stay away from software firewalls and go for a strong reliable hardware firewall.

ive been using MCafee for a year now. It's pretty reliable, gets rid of any malware i have and it doesnt slow my pc down too much. It's configurable to fit your needs, and works around your working habits.

Zone alarm is good with the exception it asks if u want to do EVERYTHING witch may not be a bad thing sometimes. However it can be annoying as all hell.

Stay safe online and in the real world.

Core Force The firewall portion of the software is built on the OpenBSD firewall PF. The application filter is elegant, although difficult to configure.

Once it's running this is a rock solid security platform that will protect against a lot of things beyond typical network based attacks.
