tried vista for 3 weeks, on a brand new high end laptop .. removed it and I am much much happier with xp, and sadly I love new OS's and gadgets etc.. but VIsta is the worst functioning OS ever devised.. it looks OK but functionality is terrible , its buggy , crashes more, and super SLOW!
XP is so much faster on the same hardware and is more stable, even with hacked up drivers to get XP installed it's more stable!!
Mac OSX has to be the best looking, and stable of the three, however Linux is very good now too.
Seeing as I wanted 4GB RAM for my notebook I had no choice but to use Vista. I found that if I restored my PC back to its default settings using the restore CD (which has XP) then the Vista upgrade goes much smoother than performing a clean install.
I think the Vista specific Toshiba drivers that are provided for my laptop need a bit more work. But I am happy with Vista on the whole :) At least until Windows 7 in any case.
Vista is a pretty good operating system im runnin it now not too many problems yea a few bugs here and there but overall rating 1-10 i give vista a 7.8
Fan of Vista, but it doesn't work for me. Similar to a video cast I saw Chris do, I cannot be productive with tools I am accustome to using when I change over to Vista. XP Pro is solid and faster for me. I would change to Vista in a heartbeat if all of my apps and hardware worked the way they do now for me on XP Pro. However I would be open to exploring new software solutions for my productivity if there were some forum out there I could get feedback on new solutions for problems I need to overcome. Wait, I think I found a viable forum.
I have been using Vista Ultimate on a single core AMD with 3 gigs of Ram for about a year now. I haven't had too many problems - at least not enough problems to switch back to XP. Overall i like it but I still think it was a miss by Microsoft - it could have been so much better.
I know I must be showing my age, but I clearly remember not so long ago getting flamed by friends and Geeks alike about switching from 2000 pro to XP. They said XP was just 2000 with more eye candy and that it killed performance.
LoL - isn't that kind of the same conversation we are having right now?

I am currently using Windows Xp Sp3. I also occasionally use Ubuntu Linux, through the Wubi installation. I have tried Vista, and there was just not enough driver support, specifically for my sound card and mouse. The shell was faster in Vista, but I am not a fan of its file and folder navigation system. Xp is still nice and comfy for me.
