I honestly think their first task should be making it so it takes up less memory.

Why on earth does everybody keep running on about "make it work faster on old PC's".

I think that is completely ridiculous. You don't get cars that are still run by two piston engines, you don't expect them to still have wooden seats.

Times change! And the technology shouldn't sit back and still work on the old hardware (not really old). My machine was built a few years back, and still runs Vista without a problem. Hell, it even runs top end games on full graphics/resolution/AA and everything, without a hiccup.

Microsoft should make the next O/S a complete hog, to knock out these slow ass 486 users that are trying to run the new O/S's.

You really don't get it do you? The whole point is that Vista isn't running well on new lower end models as well thats the whole point even laptops that are 800 bucks run Vista like shit. I would know I bought a new Dell laptop for 800 bucks and Vista crashed the first day I got it. I ended up returning it and sticking with my iBook and HP laptop with Windows XP but mostly my iBook.

I have Vista installed of my secondary PC too, which is a 1.2Ghz Celeron with 768MB of ram for the love of all things electronic. I'm sure that is a low enough spec as a "base" machine for Vista.

Yes Vista was not awesomely stable at the start, but it is now.

How is it foolish, you need to include something to back that kind of response up.

when you buy new car products you can usually put them in new cars. new car technology can easily be added to most old cars. "two piston engines" are VERY old. People still drive cars that are 20 or 30 yrs old, where as if you have a 2 yr old computer you cant run vista. ITS NOT THE SAME, ABOUT A 10-15X DIFFERENCE! Sure, technology should advance, but it should be COMPATIBLE. its the only logical approach. The only reason it isn't compatible is because its the only way ms can ensure products will be sold and they will get money. People usually buy new hardware to improve or keep up with OLD technology, not to get completely new crap.

So yeah, VERY BAD ANALOGY. ^^^^^^

P.S->how much did ur old machine cost, what games, and what tweaks have you done (removes functionality too!) Oh and, microsoft OS is already a resource hog, no need to make another 1 ;)

They should focus more on speed and performance rather than eye candy, that way people might use it more.

We all thought the wait for Vista would be worth it...! Where can you actually get information on this as I would love to read it?

Take care.

I think Microsoft has learned their lesson with Vista. They know they did not get this many complaints with XP, and they also remember the horrible PR they got from ME, so even though they had to shoot themselves in the foot first, I think they finally get the message. Now, I am very happy with XP, and would not mind using it forever, but I know I'll have to give it up sometime, and I think Windows 7 (from what I've heard and read about it at least) will be a good next choice.

I think they should add some type of virtualization and more file utilities.
