Download Our Windows 7 Tips!

Okay well. i've always been interested in networks. Obviously.

I'm on about 30mb down/3mb up Internet, depending on the day it can be lower. Especially the download, since it's cable it differs with neighbors and all.

But anyway

My network (with details)

cable internet

Vonage. & PS2

6 Computers online. sometimes 7 to 9 depending if I'm testing, or friends come over.

3 wireless, 3 Wired.

Modded Linksys WRT5GS - Also, I have a 64mb Ram P1, 1.2gb HDD that i have setup with linux for routing. Multiple NIC's & ETC. Also with a hub. but i don't use that much.

The Linux Router PC also has an IDS setup for the obvious. need to protect the network eh :P.

Using samba as well for sharing between PC's.

So anyone?

Someday we'll be able to get more "fun" with our network; I've always wanted to learn Linux, but right now all my nerdiousity is being poured into a 1 year accelerated BSN program. So I just need a network that works.

We're on a Linksys router that serves my wired iMac and 2 wireless Macbook Pros via a radio wireless internet service (I'm on a farm in Arkansas, and that's the best we can do out here). Another computer, a Windows XP wired desktop is on ClearBlue internet all by itself; we got roped into a contract before we realized that ClearBlue literally cuts you off from the internet if you approach their upload limits, so we dropped to their lowest plan & use it on that one computer, while we went back to our original provider for the rest.

I have several computers at two different locations - and I didn't want to run cables thought the house and then out to the barn/office.

1 DSL Modem connects to WRT54G running DD-WRT
1 WET54G Connects to a BEFSX41 firewall router
1- Headless FreeNAS P4 running FreeNas with over 1.5 TB of storage connects to the WRT54G via ethernet
1- Windows box connects to WRT54G via a WUSB54G
1- Headless PowerMac connects to the BEFSX41 via ethernet (itunes server only)
1- Ubuntu Box (formally Opensolaris) connects to the BEFSX41 via ethernet
1- Mac Mini connects to the BEFSX41 via ethernet
1- Dell laptop connects to either network depending if I am in the office of the house.
1- Toshiba laptop connects to either network depending on where is located.
1- Old Toshiba laptop connects primary to the BEFSX41 via ethernet.
2 - Linksys wireless-G cameras connect to the WRT54G (got to keep an eye on the little ones)

All computers share files via the FreeNAS box only.
I just need a wireless printer or all in one) for the house and we will be all set.
