I had a dell XPS D300 (that still works) that i had in service for 12 years, it shipped with windows 95, then I loaded windows 98, and now it runs XP, it has a 300MHz clock speed Pentium II processor, 384mb of RAM, and a 6gb HDD, still runs strong, but i retired it and got an iMac, great computer, great hardware, never failed, not extremely quick, but solid, reliable, and quicker than most of those $399 laptops at best buy. Anyone else have a similar story?? Comments Welcome

I'm going on 3 years with my computer and it's starting to fall apart lol. The USB ports are shorted out and are completely dead. Something happens to the PSU every once in a while and I won't be able to turn it on. And overall it just doesn't have quite enough power to do what I want it to. For a cheap, custom computer I got off ebay it's not a huge surprise, but I am definitely ready for an upgrade. My laptop, on the other hand, I can see myself keeping for a very long time.

Still running after 15 years of service. I have an original IBM PS2 8086 (pre 8088) with a full 640k of ram that runs Dos 6.22, that still runs as a word processor and database on an 8-bit 400mb scsi hard drive. And it still prints to my parallel port 9-pin Okidata 180 turbo dot matrix printer.

you know its funny how not more then 10 years ago u would never believe computers have 250+ gigs of space in them, and 6 gigs of ram. Then 80 gig HDs were the hottest thing out there. WoW how the world moves so fast in this industry its hard to fathom.

Stay safe online and in the real world.

Soon they'll have terabyte thumb drives... and also, soon people will be reading this thread and laughing at how we are impressed by that haha.

I have a Packard Hell desktop from 1992 that should still work. I haven't used it for anything in the last 7 or 8 years. The hardware was all fine when I last had it on...Windows on the other hand needed to be wiped and reinstalled...it'll probably become a Linux box whenever I get it out of storage and have time to mess around with it again. It was an Intel 486DX4 (75MHz) maxed out with 36 MB of RAM and a spacious 420 MB hard drive.

I also have a Commodore 64 that worked last time it was shut down...which was probably at least 8-10 years ago.

Theres a Commodore 64 in the basement; it hasnt ran in at least 10 years but should still work.

I will try someday soon.

I currently have a working 15 year old Packard Bell desktop with original Windows 3.1 upstairs in the family office. When its on, it sounds somewhat like a small vacuum cleaner running in the background, but I always remember it sounding like that. Up until last year, my father used it to keep his books on it. Occasionally, I'll use it to play old DOS freeware/shareware games. games, such as commander Keen and Hugo's House of Horrors, and old OLD OLD school jeopardy, Jurassic Park, and some other things.

Here's a few pictures I took of it today, if you'd like to see what sort of technology I'm sitting on.
