Sense the popular Everquest otherwise known as evercrack mmorpgs have been on the rise. World of Warcraft pretty much confirms this assumption. However, I don't see this rise in popularity necessarily as a good thing. In fact is troubles me greatly. Not only do these games cost users up to 30 dollars in monthly fees, they consume virtually all of their players time.

What does this mean, simply going by what I have observed once you become addicted to WoW you stop playing everything else. I have tried to get immersed in wow.. I have tried various other mmos as far as Age of Conan which turned out to be warcraft with better graphics and a flashy melee combat system. They even ported over the classing yellow exclamation marks and question marks for quest givers.

I get sick of seeing the same repetitive game play.. it bores the living hell out of me. I can't enjoy being sent out to kill creatures over and over and over again be it kill a number of creatures or collect some form of loot.. the game play does not change throughout. Once in a blue moon you'll be thrown a "fun" quest however this is sparse. I would much rather play Bioshock or Unreal 3.

What bothers me the most however is the death of your other game types.. it used to be that first person shooters such as halo and half life dominated gaming news. Now all everyone ever talks about is wow... Go online, try to find a nice match in Unreal 3. It's all but impossable.. twenty severs and only one of them is populated. Flash back to unreal 2004, I never had a problem finding a server, in fact sometimes it would be so packed I'd have to spectate and wait for someone to leave.

It saddens me... I'm forced to play an mmo in order to game with other players.. to game with my friends. It's all they do.. what a world.. what a world of warcraft.

I play wow

It doesnt consume you unless u allow it to. Like any other game. WoW is a pass time for alot of people who otherwise dont have anything such as late night workers, or single people who dont want to do the bar scene. If u take it moderation and know when to back off and go out and enjoy the air its fine.

I do agree though MMOs have killed the other markets........ but I play wow so im fine lol!!

Stay safe online and in the real world.

See, I totally agree with this. It's the people who let it consume them that the rest of the world hears about, so naturally they say "all" wow players are like that, which is untrue.

I play wow as well I just refuse to play it religiously. Props to you if you can control yourself.. for example I'll play wow but I love a good round of gary's mod here and there, I've had quite a few laughs with that.

I play MMO's but I'm not obsessed, I can quit anytime. I'm at the point where I want to make an MMO rather then play one, very lucrative business.

well i think it kinda is with WoW taking over peoples lives, im getting kinda scared everyone in the world will get addicted to it and it will take over the world O.o I really hope that doesn't happen

I installed WOW on my Laptop, and i can see how people would get addicted to the game, but myself i don't see how i would get into a game like that, it just requires to much time to get something that really means nothing to me at the end of the day. And as you said it costs real money. This Game surly would be taking a lot for a game.

I think that MMORPG's have taken gaming to a place that is good, but maybe they have taken it to far.

I hope that MMORPG's become less full on and less time consuming. Have a good one man!

I've played World of Warcraft since Beta. The game was WONDERFUL until Expansion. The expansion wasn't developed by the original WoW developers since they moved onto other companies, so the game wasn't the same and included features that appealed another certain group. This lost interest but grew more in the addiction factor. I hated this and I lost many things with the addiction of WoW.

Warhammer Online is TRUELY the WoW killer. It's fun nor addicting.

I was on the beginning of the MMORPG craze with Star Wars Galaxies. I can personally attest that these games, especially for young kids, can be very addicting. But I don't see them really taking over, some people just plain don't like them or can't afford the monthly charged for some of the titles.
